6.8 Remington SPC

Gentlemen,

I am thinking of a 14 inch SS barrel, for my G2 Contender, of 6.8 SPC calibre. What experience have you had with this round. I understand it is a rather new one designed to give better range and terminal ballistics over the 223. I am also thinking of the 30-30, but am wanting to buy only one barrel.

It would seem that this round could be used on coyotes, cats, hogs, and even deer and antelope type animals.

Opinions anyone?

I have an AR15 with a 16" barrel chambered in this round and it is a joy to shoot. Low recoil, almost none, yet accurate and hard hitting. I have yet to take any game animals with it but plan on bagging a few deer with it this year. I have bought 2000 rounds of empty brass and hve been busy reloading and testing. I recommend this round for your descibed needs.

I have a  15" TC Encore in 6.8............shoots less than inch 3 shot 100 yard groups. A real joy to shoot!

I have the 6.8 rifle barrel on a Contender. 110gr. V Max through the lungs at 100 yards worked out fine.90gr. Sierra's work on coyote. Dave

I bought my son a Rem 700 in 6.8. It's a great shooter and we have used it on fox, groundhogs, paper, cans and such. Low recoil, accurate but if you want to hunt deer and hogs get the .30-30 and load midrange loads for everything else. After a whole lot of years with single shot, lever and bolt .30-30's, I think it is a MUCH more versatile chambering than the 6.8 SPC.

Once again I will have to echo Cheesehead's comments..go with the 6.8!I have one in a  23" rifle barrel.

Coyote Guns offering 6.8L chambering. Rem 6.8 w/ shoulder moved forward 1/8" allowing 6 gn more powder resulting in 100-150 fps increase in 14"-15" barrels. Able to use standard dies. Just a thought!  BOB
