Sigma 9mm
« on: March 20, 2008, 01:35:59 PM »
I'm kind of new to pistol shooting.  Wanting to purchase my first pistol.  On a pretty tight budget these days.    Really looking for a decent plinker for not much $$$.

What to look for?

Hello
From what I hear, S&W has Their M&P on Sale right now with a Special dealer rebate that is I think $200.00 or do. They also give Two fee magazines with this pistol and a Lifetime Warranty. I hope this helps, Hammerdown

Back in the 90's I workrd for a pistol manufacturer and my job was to test other pistiols, for reliability , function etc; Of all of the 9mm's I tested the Sigma stood up to abuse as well , or better than most.CDNN always has S&W's    on sale both new and used at very good prices.CDNNSPORTS.COM   hth   Doug

Hammerdown,

I don't suppose you know how long that rebate is going to last do you? It sounds like a really good deal and I like the looks of those M&P's.

I walked in and asked for a job, worked on the line for about a week and then to QC and the rest was history.Stayed untill the company was bought out and then went down the tubes, moved to another state etc.But you are right a great job, I was firing over 1500-2000 rounds a week.   Doug

I own a SW9F sigma and it's a great little pistol.  It's basically a glock that I can shoot as the grip angle more 90 than the glock.  I have only had one problem with the gun and it was that the front sight fell out.  S&W replace the front sight with a tritium night sight at no cost.
If you just want a plinker, I would skip the 9, 40, or 45 for a 22 LR and look at the brownings or the Ruger MK2 or 3's and spend $ on ammo and get really good with the 22 for $25 for 500 rounds rather than the same $25 for 100 or less.

I'm considering buying an SW9F.  Are they safe to carried holstered with a round in the chamber?

Sure.  The sigma has a two piece trigger similar to the glock.  As long as you do not touch the trigger it would be fine to carry.  I have used it in a couple of handgun shoots.  The only thing I can tell you is practice holstering and drawing any firearm while keeping your finger out of the trigger guard and then going to it as you are coming on target.
I also have not had a problem with any of the 6 mags I have feeding into the gun.
Good luck.
