Found a Handi shop in Portsmouth Oh
« on: March 22, 2008, 09:14:20 AM »
I found a quant little shop in Portsmouth Ohio called Lock , Stock & Barrel . Had a very nice .410 Topper in nickel and a USH in 20ga , both were NIB . They also deal in used H&Rs so i gave him my cell # so when he gets anything in he'll give me a call , said that they get about 2 a month but don't seem to stay on the rack very long .

He said that now that he knows someone that collects these fine little rifles that he will keep his eyes open for some of the older and odd ones for me . His first gun was a H&R 12ga and he still has it .

So,

If he calls you and says he has a 7x57 your going to call me right?  ;D ;D ;D
I have missed out on every one that has been around. Even had someone buy one out from under me on a wanted ad I posted!

Stimpy - great find buddy, have fun there!!!

GregP42 - You posted a WTB for a gun, someone responded and then SOMEONE ELSE snuck in like a "thief in the night" and bought it out from under you ???!!!!

Please tell us who BOTH those jerks were, the guy who bought it away from you on your own WTB and the jerk who sold it to him as well. Those guys I want to stay away from....<><.... >:(

P.S - I have a 7x57 barrel that I had factory fitted back in 1997 (?) when they first came out. I may even be the first or at least among the first to have one. I had been at the factory in 95 or 96 and discussed the possibility of getting one if they ever made them up. A year or 2 later they called and the rest is history. I even had to get a new frame for it however that's another story of their GREAT CS and the great people that work there!!!....<><....:)

It does not look as if I have to be careful or sorry as a result of that thread you linked to Tim, nothing wrong there and it was not as GregP42 posted: (we all know that would not have been you, and I cannot think of anyone on this board that would do such a thing...)

"Even had someone buy one out from under me on a wanted ad I posted!"

It seems GregP42 was referring to a WTB he posted. The thread you linked to my friend was started by member Daniel Laws and he was listing items he was selling. It seems you even asked others to buy it before you did to save you!!!...... "Come on guys, someone take the 7x57 and save me!!  Tim"

Now the question, DID GregP42 really post a WTB for a 7x57 barrel and have actually have someone steal or "snipe" it away from him or is that an exaggeration??? Inquiring minds want to know. But perhaps you are correct Tim, it may be better if we don't know....<><....::)

MSP,

One of the first posts I posted on here was a wtb for a 7x57, that was in late March or early April of 2005. I will find it if it is still around, but that was a couple of software changes ago.

But it was KenBev, and belive it or not you  ;D You missread the wtb and thought it was Ken, and I didn't get back on until after work that day and it was gone.

Jeesh!!! Sorry Greg, that doesn't sound right to me buddy. I went back over your first 10 months of posts and couldn't locate anything like that. "You missread the wtb and thought it was Ken". Anyway, I am sorry if there was a misunderstanding, (I know I did not buy another 7x57) and please have a Happy Easter. I hope the easter bunny finds  7x57 for you....<><.... :)

MSP,

I was miffed at first, and this is when they still deleted the WTS/WTB posts, but if you look back at KenBev's posts from this time he posted when he got the rifle to his house in April of that year. But after looking back over it that week I could see how it was confusing some. So I let it slide and keep hoping I can find another one.

Stimpy,

I never really liked the 7x64, I had a mauser in 8x64 for awhile, too hard to find ammo for them. I keep looking for another 7x57, if you hear of one keep me in mind.

Tim,

I will hold you to that unless I find one first!  ;D ;D Like I said it was a long time ago and while it bothered me at first look, after reading the mayhem that was in that thread I saw how it got confused.

If you don't mind the the barrel stamping, just get a 7mm-08 and do the rechamber.  I got a handi in the 7-08 that I just sighted in, didn't try for groups yet.  Seems to do OK.  Have 2 "other" brands in that and have owned several 7x57's in the past.  I think you gave me an idea.  Hmmm. the want list of new barrels gets longer.  DP.

The 7mm-08 to 7x57 rechamber in a fixed barrel won't work, the 7mm-08 chamber is too big at the shoulder to clean up with a 7x57 reamer. May work fine on a threaded barrel for a bolt rifle tho.
