ATR
« on: March 26, 2008, 08:40:10 AM »
I was looking at the ATR for deer hunting last year but i wanted something with a good action so regretfully i bought a rem. 770 in 270 because the good adds in magazines. But if i decide to get another low end rifle does the ATR have a good action?? the 770 chop tops the bullets when feeding from the clip and has a 16pound cocking force on the bolt! its accurate and all but Craq! in my mind.
thanks

I have two ATR's and have never had a problem with either feeding improperly.  I find the action to be very solid and sturdy and very smooth for such an inexpensive rifle.  In addition, each of mine has a metal magazine follower as compared to the Stevens which has plastic.

There has been much discussion on this site regarding the ATR.  Use the search feature at the top of the page and type in Mossberg ATR.

I have the ATR in .270 and couldn't be more pleased. The action is very smooth and has a very tight lock-up. Mine is also very accurate. I did break the rear swivel mount, but that was entirely my fault. Mossberg offered to replace the stock if I would send it in, but I opted to put some screw in mounts in.

I have had an ATR 30-06 for about 2 yrs and my wife hunts with it more than me but the more I shoot the gun the more I like it. She took a big doe this past friday and made great shot. the only problem i have had is the first 20 too 30 shots I had some misfire but since I have had none. For the money it is a good buy.

Errr what's your point?

That it's cheaply made? well take a look at the Rem 700 and 770 both are cheaply made the thread says less than a box of factory ammo but was it the right ammo? things like this don't impress me as more than half the story is missing.

Now in our local gunshop is a destroyed Tikka action, however I know the story as it happened at our club range and have met the stupid idiot who blew it up and spoken to folks who were there when it happened. Luckily I was not and I watch the idiot when he is at the range same time as me like a hawk. He filled the case with Bullseye pistol powder instead of the proper rifle powder and the rifle denonated. No surprise there really the only surprise was thet he only got a couple of metal splinters in his forehead, only superficial at that. Do I think Tikka's are unsafe .......... nope but I do think this idiot is as it seems it's not the first time he has blown up a gun ............... Sheesh! ::)

i am not making any sort of point.

i am showing you a post that discusses these rifles and shows that maybe they're unsafe, so you can make an informed decision.

once again i am just passing information along and have nothing personal to do with it.

not sure why you are attacking me, i am just trying to help people make an informed decision. if i happen to hear more i will pass it along.

not sure why you choose to attack me. if i am a politician you must be a reporter.  ;D

Mossberg uses the same bolt assembly method that was used on the post-64 Winchester Model 70s.  My son has one in .30-06 and it is very accurate.  I really like it.  I'd as soon have it as a Savage.
