Rechambering 17M2
« on: March 27, 2008, 04:03:14 AM »
Does anybody out there know where I might get a 17m2 rechambered to the new Remington 17 fireball (I think that is what it is called) and if this is feasible, i.e. rifling twist, bore size, extractor ?

Why ruin a good barrel.  With the value of your barrel and the cost to get it rechambered, you just spent the cost of a custom barrel.  Just get hold of Bullberry and have them make you a barrel.

I would go with SSK Industries or On Target Technologies (a.k.a., OTT).

If you mean the rim fire round to a to a center fire round it will not work. The actions of rim fire rifle will not hold near the pressure of the center fire rounds. Plus you would have to have alot of bolt work done. Not only face but fireing pin.

pab, I'm thinking of doing the same thing, except I think I'm going to .17 Ackley Hornet instead of the Fireball.  I'm going to call JD Jones @ SSK and seek his opion and his services unless he talks me out of it.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt   :)

it sounds all nice but your guys are looking in too a 200$ upgrade for a barrel that was just on sale for 140 ish.. your better off selling them out right  and upgrading to a custom barrel for a few $$ more and it would prob be at least twice the shooter a rechamber would be it would be totaly understandable if they dident make shells for a mach 2 any more but i say dump the barrels... go custom you will end up spending 80-100$ more then you were thinking of but your geting a way better barrel

WHOOPS, Guess I forgot where I was. :-[ Yes, your speaking of the new .17-221 Rem, not sure how close it is to the .17 Mac 1V, but when they brought out the .17 Rem. it was the commercial version of the .17-223. They are very close, but nether round will chamber in the others chamber, I would guess that the .17-221 is the same.  ???
