Turkey tubes: Primos Jellyhead vs. H.S. Strut Undertaker
« on: March 27, 2008, 01:28:11 PM »
Greetings,

I have never been an avid shotgunner. I bought a 12 gauge 2 3/4" Wingmaster 35 years ago and it still looks new. It came with a 28 inch full choke barrel. I bought a 26" IC barrel a few years later. Last fall, I took my son dove hunting on his 16th birthday and he limited out with "my" shotgun, which became his that day. I was left throwing rocks, so I had to go shopping. I bought a used 870 Express, 28" with the modified tube.

This year is our first Spring Gobbler season together. A friend gave me a Rem. Extra Full tube. It put 28 pellets in a 7" pie plate at 40 yards with Rem. Premier 3" 1.75 oz loads of #6 and Rem. Nitro Turkey 1 7/8 oz. #6.I was not overly impressed. I am a RIFLEMAN.

Now I ask......which would you recommend; the .665 JellyHead or the .665 Undertaker. The JH is ported and is good for Hevishot (which I will likely not shoot). The Undertaker is lead only. I shot a friends Undertaker from my shotgun and the pellet count was 32 and 36 for the two above loads into the same 7" pie plate at 40 yards on the same day as the Rem. Extra Full. I have also bought some Winchester Supreme 2 oz. loads to try, at the recommendation of several turkey hunters.

I will not go the expense of exotics such as the Rhino, and I will likey never shoot Hevishot and will never consider the Nitro custom loads.....guess I'm closed minded. Just seeking advice on a good tube for lead turkey loads.

Head to head comparisons on these two tubes are WELCOME, and thanks!
