looking for a Ruger 1 smith to tune mine

I have a Ruger #1 B in .223 that has rarely shot as well as I would like it to. But I love the styling and such.  Can anybody recommend a smith that might do some improvements on mine?  Would Ruger do them?  I would consider rebarreling or setting the barrel back as the chamber throat is so long I can't seat 55 gr bullets in the case and get anywhere near the lands. 

I have a nominal 1:10 twist. I'd like to mainly use 52 to 65 gr bullets - any twist recommendations?

I've thought about getting the forearm hanger redone and the trigger improved.  A long time ago I installed a Wolf spring kit in it.

I'll be in Montana in April and wonder if there are any smiths in the Helena, Billings area that I could drop the gun off when I'm there.  I live in Alaska, in case you know of a good smith here.

  First, have yo tried different bullets and different loads.  Not every bbl shoots every load as well as another.  Gotta match the favored load to the gun. 
  I'd suggest asking, or actually checking the 'smith list on the Ruger #1 yahoo group.

Always wanted a #1. Beautiful rifle! Looks like you may have to go to lighter bullets or a faster twist to make her shoot. Sometimes the slower twist can be overcome somewhat by driving the bullets at near max velocities. For the 52-65 grain bullets I am told the 1-8 twist is optimal. Good luck!

I have tried bullets from 40 g to 80 (keyhole badly) and get the best results from 52 to 63.  I'd just like a load that would shoot sub 1 inch more consistently.  I get them once in a while.  I have experimented with seating depth and charge levels and quite a variety of powders.  I've had the gun since the early 80's. Bought it to shoot groups and a little varmint shooting.  I had been moslty shooting my 300 win mag and a 223 was much more economical and less punishing than the 300.
