I've just got to brag a little...

I recently picked up a MKII Stainless 270 in very nice shape.  I owned one a few years ago, but sold it because it was too shiny.  I covered it with camo tape and killed a few deer with it.  This one I bought has the skeleton stock and matte finish.

This gun is un-modified other than the timney trigger.  The stock makes contact with the barrel.  This thing shoots great with darn near everything I feed it.  I've found a hunting load that I like.  54gr of IMR4350 and 130gr Sierra Gamekings hovers right around an inch.

When it comes to a hunting rifle, especially down here in the swamps of Florida, you just can't ask for any better.  I can tell that this gun is going to become one of my all time favorites.  Way to go, Ruger!

With a small die grinder, you can remove the tiny metal lip on the bolt face and make this a controlled round feed without any other modifications.  That is all that is done to make a controlled round Mark II.

What kind of scope??

You might want to try some 140 grainers-----with the .270---I've had good groups get even tighter by going to 140 gn Hornady's.

Those skeleton stocked MkII's were always good solid rifles.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm sure this gun is capable of sub-moa groups.  In fact, the 1" groups I shot yesterday could have been better had I taken more time.  I wasn't letting the barrel cool much.  I'm just really impressed with the fact that it shoots "good" without having to tinker with it.  I've owned many rifles that eventually shot good after bedding, floating, tons of load-testing, etc.  This gun just plain shoots. :)

I own 2 Ruger 77, one in 25-06 the other 300WM. They both shoot exceptionally well. I can keep groups under 1" all day long upto about 20 shots before it needs cleaning to keep the groups from growing. Both these guns outshoot my modified 6MM REM 700 HVY VRMT which has a heavy barallel and tuned trigger and stock bed job. I sold the 6MM but kept the Rugers.

I never likes the look of the syn stock they came up with, but no doubt it's a good gun.
