I've never caught coyotes in anything but #2 longsprings, myself. they work fine on coyotes in this area, anyway. I use #11 on fox and coon at dirthole sets, and have held plenty of coyotes by several toes in those little traps, too. The #2 is too big for coons or fox at dryland sets, but is just right for coyotes. I've even caught a few by both front feet in them, couple by the front wrist joint, and plenty of hind leg catches too at post sets. Trap placement is a little more critical, but once you get a system down they work great. A lot easier on accidental dog catches, too. Something that can't alwasy be said for bigger models. They are also a heck of a lot cheaper than traditional coyote trap sizes, so an occasional theft loss isn't as pricey to the bottom line. I like the sleepy creek #2 because it is even a little wider in jawspread than an old victor, blake & lamb, or a northwoods model. I like the adjustable pans, too. On those older models I just add booster springs, center swiveling arrangements and a really tight throw on the pan around a 1/16" is great, 1/8" is liveable, but anything more is too far for the pan to travel. This trap is a good sized trap for cats, too.
