« on: March 30, 2008, 01:23:11 PM »
I have been reading the post on Indiana deer regulations and I live and hunt in Indiana to and have been thinking about the .44 or the 500 but have not shot the 500 would a 24" barrel bull barrel be a good set up for the 500 and what kind of range would I be looking at with the Indiana pointed leverlotion ammo

unless you just want a 500 i would say the 44mag will do just fine. i live in southern Indiana .and the 44 doesn't kick you to death

what would you consider max range with the 44 ? i hunt a lot of open Fields and was wanting to be able to get out there past 100-150 yards and thought i would be able to do it with the 500 but would be limited with the 44

Look @ the 357Max I had a 44mag and then went with the Max I am getting just under an 1- 1/2 @ 150 yards with 180G bullets
This barrel was built for IN regs by MGM I am getting in the ball park to 30-06 performance this thing hits deer like a hammer. Having shot this more sense deer season I would feel confident @ 200 yards with it easy

That's gotta be a real big "ball park" to compare the Max to the 30-06!! :D

GBO sponsor Reed's Ammunition carries Max ammo, Dan Wesson ammo is also available where ever you can find it.

:)  30-06 180G bullet H4895 2635fps-------------357Max 180G bullet Lil-Gun 2275fps I would say that's pretty good out of a pistol round with little to no pressure signs it also was made with a .358 bore 20 inch long.

My Max is a custom load Dies from RCBS , Rem is the only new brass that I have found , 180G Hornady SSP bullet , CCI small rifle primer
Call Jeff @ Match Grade Machine he built both mine the 44mag and the 357Max in my opinion the max will out perform all the pistol rounds that meet the IN regs

Thanks not sure were the location is but I do appreciate the offer. I think I am interested in the 357 max but do not reload now and money wise will not be for a while and I can only find 1 or 2 places online to buy them. The 44 is easily found but not the range I am looking for .I have hunted with the 44 in a Dan Wesson revolver and did like it but wouldn’t go any farther then 75 yards or so now I have a encore in 270 and I am decent with it to 150 or so now I would like a hunting rifle to get me that far if not farther legally in Indiana.

If you have MGM build your barrel they will custom load the ammo for it for a little extra. How ever many rounds you want and send you the test target to prove accuracy. These guy's will not be happy until you are

Getting set up to reload the .357 max is not difficult nor is it expensive if you buy the right equipment. Matter of fact that is probably the best way to get the most out of the cartridge.
