Quick follow-up shot - ammo where?

I would like to keep an extra round or two readily available if a follow-up shot is needed in a hurry.

I noticed that T/C has a "Forend Cartridge Flex Loader ", part #9322 and a "Wrist Cartridge Carrier", part #8009. They also have a sling that hold 2 rounds but that doesn't seem like the best idea. My rifle is chambered in 45-70.

What have you guys used and what would you suggest?

In the past I have put an extra round in the "pencil pocket" of my camo bibs.  That works pretty good with larger rounds.  When using my 7mm-08 I had to put a safety pin at the bottom of the pocket to keep the round from falling down in the pocket where I could not get to it.  Now I have an ammo holder that goes over the butt of the gun, but the loops that hold the ammo are starting to stretch, and a round or two will occasionally fall out.  I know someone that has the TC wrist holder, he likes it alot.  I've been thinking about getting one of the TC wrist or forearm holders for myself, but I have yet to do so.

I use two bullet holders on my rile. I have a buttstock shell holder that holds 9 and a sling that holds 6. i use the buttstock ammo fist. dont store ammo in them as they tend to stretch out and ammo won't stay.

I should have mentioned it but I shoot lefty and it doesn't look like any of the butt stock carriers can be reversed for use on the opposite side.

stock carriers should work either side. they are just sewn loops and ammo will fit from either direction.

It appears that the carrier is tapered on one end. If the carrier was put on the opposite side of the stock, the taper would be on the wrong side. It doesn't appear that they are reversible.

I was also wondering how the flex forend pouch actually attaches and if it could affect accuracy when attached and holding 2 fat 45-70's.

i have read and seen were people would hold the next two rounds in between the 1st and 2ND fingers and the 2ND and 3rd fingers ND the off hand i have practiced this some and think i am as fast as most with bolt gun.

They will work, just slide it on normally for a right hander and then push the cartridge loops over the top to the left side if the stock.....tada! It's all set up for us lefty's

I then unscrew the sling swivel nut out of the buttstock and slide the holder over the hole. Then punch a small hole in the holder over the hole and screw the swivel nut back in and now the nut holds it in place and it won't move or slide around on you.

I don't think you need to put the holder on the stock backwards, after it is put on the stock just rotate it around the stock from one side to the other and you change it from right to left handed...

Funny how the most obvious solutions sometimes escape us. I was thinking of the butt stock carriers that had the pouches which could not be rolled over. Never really thought of the simple loop type carrier. Good idea.

I use a sling that holds four rounds in loops.  Works for me.  Have never lost any out of this sling.  The stock carrier that I use is also tapered on one end.  But if you flip it over to the left side, the bottom becomes the top, and works just like the other way.  In other words the top and bottom are identical.
