Scope Base Help?
« on: April 01, 2008, 06:46:34 AM »
I got a 209X50 Pro Hunter and due to Utah regulations I can only shoot 1 power scope. But I will be hunting other states including Canada and would like to use my VXII 3X9 Leupold since I have couple spares. Leupold makes a Quick Release base and rings on Cabela's web reading the reviews people claim to be able to take one scope off and pop another on with little to no adjustment needed. I've got the two scopes just trying to decide which way to go for mounts. I can even shoot open sights over base which gives me allot of flexability.

Has anyone tried these and what luck have you had?

They work very good. The Warne or Leupold (made by Warne) QD rings that lock onto a Weaver style base also work excellent.

Leupold Quick Release, 2 pics. Those tubes are straight, the camera gives a fish-eye effect up close. (Need to figure it out yet)

Warne QD rings on Weaver style base. That is not rust on the levers, for some reason the camera gives them a purple hue.

I do not have first hand information because I have not used QD rings and bases, but most people seem to agree that the Warne QD system (rings and bases) are more reliable than the Leupold.

These mount on a Weaver style base - also made by Warne and other companies

Just repeating what I have been told...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Waren rings would be fine as I have a couple MGM bases I picked up at a gun show. Save me the money on Leupold base just trying to find out which works best. Before I got my Pro Hunter all my guns have Leupold scope, base and rings. Can't say anything bad about Leupold they have been good to me for over 30 years. But never had quick release before. That's why I'm asking as this board gave me allot of help Thanks!

I like the thought of popping off one scope and putting on another.

The Leupold QRW rings are made by Warne and are equal in quality, they just look a little different and cost a little more. Instead of mounting together vertically, they have a little cleaner appearance.

Always baby the levers on any QD or QR rings - they don't need gorilla pressure, just snugged.  I've broken levers on two QRW rings and one regular Warne QD doing the gorilla act.

The QRW rings are nice but be sure to put some wax paper or clear tape over the scope tube before pushing that top ring piece down over the tube.
WHUT?
