AR scope mounting
« on: April 01, 2008, 11:58:22 AM »
Want to mount a scope on my AR-15...without mounting it on the carry handle. Whats the best option to keep it high enough that the front sight isn't an issue. Or should I just do away with the front sight all together? Was eyeing the trijicon line made for ARs. Think I might break down and spend the money.

As a B-side. Has anyone else had trouble getting after market accessory rails to fit on an olympic arms m-4? Even had a buddy of mine that's an airborne MP and EXTREMELY familiar with these guns to help me....we had no luck. Something seems a little off.

acogs are nice for target, if you want to shoot varmits at all, a scope is the only way to go.

I took my front sight off my ar and put a low profile bas block on it and a free floating tube, and put a riser on the flat top to help get it up of the action some. i got my riser block from cheaper than dirt

Wouldn't own an AR without irons.  I have both a flat top and a carry handle AR, both have optics mounted. I have tried the cantilever mounts for the carry handle that mount the optic forward and slightly below the line of sight. Works ok with a dot or holo, but too far forward for a scope. I mounted a small tube 4x on the carry handle and can still quickly aquire the irons if need be. The flat top has flip up irons and an acog type sight mounted forward on the free floating handguard rails. Love optics, but have to have backup irons on a battle rifle!
