I sent the receiver and the forearm of my Buffalo Classic in for a .204 Ruger barrel and it came back today. I happened to be out side when the UPS driver stopped and brought up the package. I told him at that time that the package was bent in the middle. He just shrugged and said I hope it's OK.
It wasn't. The for arm had been crushed somehow. A side of it was broken lengthwise from the tip to about mid way.
The package was one of H&R's cardboard shipping boxes that fit the rifle and it was inside a plain card board box. Looked almost as if it was intentionally damaged. This is my first time with firearm damage so I have nothing to judge, but it sounds as if more of us are having this type of thing happening.
I can't even think of the pressure that would have had to have broken the forearm at that point.
I guess I will have another long wait before I shoot this again.

I know whine, whine , whine.....I have always worried about this when I send a gun off,..my turn I guess.

Give H&R a call and see what they say, this is the first freight damaged report I recollect, all other stock damage has been at the factory before shipping. It would be up to H&R to file a damage claim since they're the shipper, UPS has $100 insurance on all shipments. H&R may elect to just send you a new forend too, so call em, it don't cost a thing! I'd make sure the barrel isn't bent too!!

Thanks,..I will do that,.. it was kind of my assessment too. If they had a replacement handy,..it would sure be simpler. Since they have sold out to Norinco,..and stopped all operations,..I can only hope.

They replaced the butt stock on my BC after I received it back after fitting of another BC barrel, the toe of the stock was missing, wasn't in the box, had to happen before it was shipped, I sent them an email with pic of the stock, 3 weeks later I got a new stock, would've got it sooner, but the were out of em. Some stocks have been damaged in shipping, but minor scratches and such from too much movement within the box itself, lose parts, but I've not had that happen on any accessory barrel fitting.....yet! ;)

I know someone who bought a Knight a few years ago that was bent. The box had tire tracks on it. I think there is some anti's at UPS that like to pull stuff like that when they know it is a firearm. You would not believe some of the tracking schedules of some firearms that I have seen go half way across the US and back about three times before they were delivered.

Even if H&R/NEF sends you a new forearm, make sure to file a formal complaint with UPS or this type of thing will only get worse.

There is a chance that it was damaged before shipping. There are some minor digs i the top of the barrel rather like something sharp had contact. I have dropped rifles on concrete benches and have had the same type of marks on them.
Disappointing to say the least.

May be a hard fight since as Bison Butt says Norinco has stopped all operations ;)

Whining would be one issue but dissemination of misinformation about Marlin / H&R 1871 by bison butt's is bizarre. Let's deal with the weird first. It is common knowledge Marlin / H&R 1871 was sold to Remington not Norinco - http://www.conntact.com/article_page.lasso?id=41655 after Remington was purchased by the Cerberus investment group. Last time I called a couple of weeks ago the doors were still open. Second - if the package was crushed enough to break the forearm how is the barrel not also bent ? I recently opened a new barrel package from H&R and it was well packed in a NEF / H&R factory box with padding. Needs to be reported to Marlin and handeled by insurance claim. When you see a damaged UPS  package you have to make sure UPS make a note of it on their pad.

My H&R Telephone call went well today. The lady representative was very accommodating. She is sending me a new BC forearm and I also ordered a Handi rifle forearm so as to have wood to match the .204 Ruger barrel when I change barrels.
I asked her if the Shipping damage was a problem with them, and she very reassuringly told me no. They may have one or two a year. That may be true,...but they also were very egar to ship out a new forearm rather than go through the claims process.
My spirits are uplifted and I'm again ready for another bump and grind day with my kitchen remodel.
Those of you that have responded,..thank you.
We need to know if our shipping options are being fair with us.

About being bizarre and the  misinformation, I was referring to the Aprils fools joke posted a couple of days ago about The sale and discontinuation of NEF'S and H& R's. It was a joke that I tried to play on,..sorry if anyone really got the wrong idea.
The barrel does not seem to be bent, but the for arm was damaged. It is taken care of now and all is well.

Every package UPS carries has $100 insurance on it.
Not that hard for them to re coupe the cost of a fore arm.
Of course H&R may have less in a fore arm than the labor to file a claim.

Got to watch some of these on line companies selling extra insurance (profit).
