I've never had any jams with any of my .22 autos, in over thirty years - and that includes Rugers, Remingtons, Marlins, and Winchesters - except for the occasional dud round in the bulk ammo of these last few years.
The "Marlins" were 6 well-used Model 60's I bought for $50 each, for the youngsters shoot, at my gun club, in the -80's. (I was the club rangemaster)
You don't have to go crazy, but as pointed out above, they need to be flushed out every now & then.
Autos are also sensitive to magazine defects, though - as in dented tubes or nicked/bent feed lips & weakened/broken springs.
