inconsistant ignition

 I picked up a used Ruger 77/22 hornet recently and it does fine with Winchester mag small pistol primers.  Today I tried CCI mag small pistol primers and only every other one would fire.  Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?  I'm not that familiar with cci primers but you would think they should at least go off.  Where or who would you go to if the bolt needs repaired?  How much would that kind of work cost?    Thanks,     btmidwest

Rugers tend to be robust and well built weapons but you really don't know whats been done to it.. have you checked the head space? Are the primers in the rounds that failed to fire well dented? Could the primers have been contaminated as they were being inserted? I've had primers fail before but they are usually either contaminated or poorly dented. If the primers were not hit very hard is the rifle clean, including inside the bolt? Crud built up inside the bolt could slow the striker fall and damage ignition.. Everything said there are differences in primer 'hardness' and that would be a problem for the rifle. Any rifle should strike hard enough to ignite any pistol primer.. Before contacting the local smith give Ruger customer service a call. Anytime I've had contact with them they've been great to work with!
