Changing Stocks on Stevens 200
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:51:10 AM »
If I change my factory stock on my Stevens 200 to one of the laminated stocks from Boyds, will I have to change the action screws as well? I am hearing the screws from the plastic stock may not work on the wood stock-------does anyone know if that is true? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a Boyd's stock it is the Target Varminter stock. It is similar to the Varmint Thumbhole stock, but is a heavy pistol grip that is straight up and down with a palm swell. I was able to use the standard screws with mine. I did have to ream out the front action hole a little. The hole did not line up perfectly with the action. I just used a drill bit and angled it a little in the existing hole. It worked out fine. There is a plastic insert where the action screw goes, this is what I angled a little. It shoots very good. In the .3 range if I do my part. Hardly ever goes over .5 at 100 yards, at any time. I did bed in the recoil lug at the back, but not the action. Good Luck and good shooting.

here is a picture of the stock/gun

I had to change mine when I went to a B&C stock. Went to the hardware store, bought several sizes. I may have had to cut one down. Set me back about $2.

K.S.,

I just gotta ask why do you want to upgrade the stock on your Stevens 200? Is this just a "looks" thing or is this a "performance" thing?
