I am not sure what you mean by "normal" scope. If you mean a 3X9 or a straight 10X you should be able to go out to 300 yards with 50 - 55 grain bullets with no problems. Start out a 55 V Max at 3200 fps and you will get a 7.2" drop at 300 with a 200 yard zero. A 50 V-Max @ 3300 FPS will get you 7.7" low at 300 with a 200 yard zero. Going beyond 300 yards, you had better get the distance just right, because they really start to drop after that. You can get slipper bullets, but you get more drop at 300 than the 50 or 55 V Max, because they start slower. For 300 yard shots, the 55 V Max shots the flattest of any Hornady bullet. I did not check other bullet makers, they are in the same sort of range. If you are going to shoot at 600 Yards, then the heavier (match type) bullets will shoot flatter, but they will not inflict as much damage to a critter; just whistle straight through.
