.30x357 Maximum

Would like to know anything anyone knows about this cartridge, reloading info. die availability, etc.  Seems like a rimmed .300 whisper on steroids!  Thanks ahead of time.

Don't know of anyone that has this round , I do shoot a 224GNR which is a .357 Max necked down to .224 and just love it .

The round your referring to is called a .30-30 Wesson. This is evidently and old black powder round that has been around longer than the .357 as Wessonwas around in the 1880`s. Anyway, with 2400 powder you can push a 165 gn. bullet to 1185 fps. according to Barns. Case capacity is 1.81 cc and will hold 28.06 gn. of H2O.

Catfish - I would think that a 30/357 Max could push a 165 grain bullet much faster than 1200 fps. A 357 max can push a 180 bullet at 2000 fps or more. Do not know for sure, but I would think that it should push a 165 at least as fast. of course it would have something to do with where you pushed the shoulder. I am assuming that the shoulder is not pushed back very far maybe .25 or .3 inches. Just a thought.

I was thinking about a 256 Winchester Mag. in a single shot carbine. Then I got to thinking that a .257" bullet based on a 357 Max would be just a little better. I did some digging on the 'net and found that there is a 256 GNR. Just the one I was thinking about. Do not know if I will do one, but I dream a lot. Stimpy does not just dream, he acts! Some one may have done 30/357 Max at some time, but I do not know of any. If you do not have your heart set on a .30 caliber, a 7mm TCU is not a bad little round. Or a 30/223 would be like a 30/221 (shhh... whisper) only stretched some and have just a little more capacity than a 30/357 Max. Of course they would not be rimmed. Or maybe a....

Did a little more digging and found that Redding offers a custom die set for the 7mm Super Mag which is a 357 Max case necked down to 7mm , but still don't find much on the 30-357 .  ???

What little i did find shows that it can be made with 23 , 30 and 40 deg shoulder angles using bullets up to 180 grain .

  The 30-357MAG is called the .30 REECE. Specialty pistols  has a thread about a group buy on it.
