How reliable are inlines that use #11 or musket caps?  Robert

I use RWS flangeless musket caps in my Staghorn and Black Diamonds, they work fine with T7 in all of them. ;)

First muzzle loader was a cva blazer "Yeah old school  ;D"  And  i had it setup at first with #11's but switched over to musket and loved it. Its a reliable system and easy to handle the larger musket caps VS the #11's.

Also had a cva staghorn with #11 system and it was excellent and never a misfire/hang fire

It really depends on what you are talking about... There are two types of #11 caps -> regular #11 and Magnum #11's.. I use T7 powder which requires a lot of heat to start especially when it is cold outside and all the metal on you gun is cold - so I use #11 mag caps - specifically Dynamit Nobel 1075+...

Musket Caps ARE hotter and the duration of spark last longer than regular #11 caps and they normally fit looser than #11 caps.  Musket caps are NOT hotter than #11 mag caps but they the duration of spark still lasts longer. According to an e-mail from CCI when I requested this information.

#11 caps normally fit the nipple tighter all the way around the nipple and do offer a bit more weather proofing than does the musket cap....

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

That's the nice thing about the flangeless RWS musket caps, a short length of surgical tubing slipped over the cap and nipple will seal the cap to the nipple. ;)

They fit pretty tight, unlike the flanged version, tight enough that the striker can be used to gently seat them. I carry the caps already in a short piece of tubing, makes em easier to handle for ole fumble fingers with gloves!! :-[ ;D

That's why I own more 209 ignition systems than #11's or Musket caps, plus I like a hotter ignition and better weatherproofing due to the weather I hunt in most of the time.

209 ignition is illegal here along with optics and jacketed bullets. I don't miss the 209s in the least from all the complaints about the "crud ring" with T7, not an issue with musket caps. ;)

The crud ring isn't nice but its not hard to remove it if you let it soak in solvent for a minute or two and use a brush to rub over it a few times. I am looking forward to trying the new BH209 though and using less T7.

I dunno, just had to find out what all the fuss was all about with these new fangled in-lines! ::) Have never killed anything but paper with em, all the meat has been made with a flinter. ;)

I am on the total opposite end. When ML's had a season in SC I started using my first ML a Rem 700 Inline. On the first day of the first ever ML season in SC I took my biggest buck. I still haven't killed anything with a flintlock or a bow. I can't bow hunt though because of my back but I am going to get a buck with my flintlock hopefully this year. :) Nice buck Tim.

Yup, nice buck indeed, looks like that PRB took his head right off!

Only shot one with PRB Flinter  and that was a couple years ago.  Just got the .54 GPR  about 7 months ago. They sure are fun to shoot and the projectiles are a lot cheaper.

Thanks, the pic was a better-late-than-never afterthought, after the carcus was on the way to the butcher. That blacktail made the classic mistake of looking back at what spooked him, I jumped him and his buddies at the top of a clearcut, they went one way, he went the other, I made a bleat sound and he stopped 50yds from me and looked back over his shoulder while quartering away, big mistake!! He was my first flintlock buck. What's cool is I was wearing a blaze orange vest since it was modern firearms season, and full camo including face mask and gloves, but standing still, he didn't know what I was, I had no face, so I didn't look like a threat to him, he stood there and let me plug him. ;D

lmao! Sounds like my deer i shot. He was about 80 yards away, he and another buck took off, i go slowly walking up through some sage/cedar and i find him laying under a tree! He already had his head tucked back and was resting.

I took him quickly with a 40yd shot through the head.  Never saw a deer go over on his back like that!

Mine was at 25 yards and was walking away when I spotted him. I used my bleat call to get him to quarter away and I took him. I was using the max amount of Pyrodex you could use then 100grains and 300 grain solid lead sabot. At this time we couldn't use scopes and we had to use Musket caps or #11 primers.
