If you shoot a 22 mag at anything, even at paper, I would suggest you pick up a box of the new Hornady 22 Mag 30 grain V-max ammo.
http://www.grafs.com/product/189601 I ordered a box of this a few weeks ago and had a chance to shoot it the other day. It was a nice calm day and at 100 yards, I was getting a very nice 1.25" group at 100 yards from a six shot group. (My Sportster 22 Mag with a Simmons 3-9x 50mm scope). So, needless to say I was quite impressed. Hornady states on the box that the velocity of this bullet is 2250fps. I havn't ran it across my cronograph yet, but at some point this summer I'm sure I'll have a chance to do this.
I have been shooting the Winchester silver box "X" 40 grain ammo with good results, but it hasn't been giving me groups (consistent groups with no flyers) like this new 30 grain Hornady ammo. So, for me "the switch has been made". I re-dialed my scope in for the new ammo as the little 30 grain pill is shooting about 4" higher at 100 yards than the previous 40 grain Winchester bullet.
Give it a try if you have a chance. Your gun may like it.
