Solid butt plates?

I have a couple of light recoil H&R's that I want to put solid butt plates on . I have 2 different ones right now on other guns (old Huntsman's and an old 158 Hornet) Niether of these fit the laminated  stocks or the thumb hole laminated have any of you done this and if you did what and where did you get the butt plates. I just re-did the stock on my rifle. I made a butt plate and pistol grip cap out of black walnut. Looks nice. I know what will be said 'The butt plate won't hold up". If it gets old looking or chipped up I'll just refinish it or make a new one. Dave

 Here's one but doesn't show it very well. I also did some re-shaping of the stock. Took off about 4 oz of wood.

Thanks dave that gave me a few ideas. My brother works for a lumber yard and old mill works place that still handles some exotic wood I think I am gonna give it a go like what you did hell if they break just replace them or get some plastic ones later . Thanks for the photo's Kurt

Another possible material would be handle pieces for a custom built knife. There is a wide variety of materials and they are close to the correct size for a butt plate.
