My son
« on: April 14, 2008, 10:09:36 AM »
I took my two sons and a friend (two fourteen year olds and a fifteen) to the silhouette shoot Saturday at the range between Bisbee and Sierra Vista AZ. I took my eldest to watch the match two months ago. He liked what he saw and wanted to try it.
He used my Ruger Mk 1 and only downed one chicken, one javelina, and two rams. I never had the elevation adjustments to aim dead on at the various distances so he had to adjust his aim. The wind was blowing pretty good. He is a good sport and was ok with his score for now.
I have a contender 10" in 223 and he may try it next time with the 22lr insert. If he continues to enjoy it I will buy a 22 barrel and eventually a 7 tcu or 357. Overall it was a good experience , I thought that I would share it with Y'all. What is the advantage of joining the ihmsa?

Way to go!!  I think he beat my first .22 score.

One advantage to joining IHMSA is the paper.  Lots of good information PLUS you get to see your name in the match reports.  It is kind of nice to see your own name in print in a national publication.  There are lots of informative articles and pictures.  Another good reason to join is you get a list of the clubs in your area that shoot.  There are also names of match directors and state level directors that you can contact for more information.  You can also see some of the guns that are shot and check out scores from other matches.  If you feel an "XYZ" exterminator pistol could be your next purchase, you can check out some of the scores and see if anyone is shooting the "XYZ" exterminator.  You mentioned the 7TCU.  You will find that LOTS of people shoot the 7TCU and it is one of the better, if not the best, round for overall IHMSA big bore silhouette.

Welcome!!

Steve is correct.  The paper provides tons of great information.  Another reason to join IHMSA is to support the organization that sanctions the sport  we all enjoy.  Dues and sanction fees pay IHMSA's overhead.  IHMSA provides the match director with supplies and promotional material to both run the match and help grow the game.

You might also consider visiting www.ihmsa.net.  This is a discussion group dedicated to silhouette shooting and has lots of information & resources.

Welcome to the best shooting game ever invented!

PS: Your son's score beat my first time score of 2.
