What do you guys think of the model 32?
« on: July 16, 2003, 04:23:11 AM »
I've owned several glocks but have gotten rid of them in the past.  The last was a model 23 which is basically the same as the 32 but what I'm curious is how the recoil handles in the smaller frame.  I've shot a 31 in the 357 Sig and the muzzle flip is not bad at all but with the shorter barrel, what do you think?  This gun will be for concealed carry when I don't take my 1911.  Want something a little lighter but potent for some days and think this would fit the bill nicely.  GS

Zeus,
It has been my experience that the sub-compact Glockes carry very nicely.  However expending the ammo needed for a level of skill, it takes a lot of determination and mind-set.  They recoil more and do flip a little more.  Your commitment to the pistol has to include the will to overcome these factors.  Good luck...I'm curious, why did you get rid of your previous Glocks? Also, the frame-grip angle is different from Glocks, and 1911's this might not be a good idea.  :D

Jeff,
I got rid of the previous ones I guess because I was in college and wanted something different.  At that time, not long ago, I would sell one and replace it.  The 32 is the midsize, not the sub compact.  The SC is the 33.  I don't like the really small ones, the midsize one feels perfect.  I liked my 23 in 40 and was very proficient at it.  I shoot plenty of rounds each month from various pistols from my ruger 22 to my Freedom Arms 454 so I understand your point on that one and think I'll have that covered.  I'm not one that is afraid to burn A LOT of powder and recoil is pretty much a moot point.  I'm one of those morons that for some reason thinks full house 454s and 475 Linebaugh are amusing and make me smile.  I've made up my mind to go ahead and get the 32 and to be honest, it will probably end up being the only gun I carry in the end. I know the glocks are ugly but they sure are dependable in my opinion.  Thanks.  Glenn

Zeus,
I think that frame size in the Glock is just about perfect. The 19/23/32 carry well in a good holster. I like the way my mdl 36 carries as well. It conceals better than the others, but is not quite as shootable for extended range sessions. On the other end I have a mdl 21. I've got the upper and lower ranges covered pretty well. I still miss my mdl 19!! Either way, you can't go wrong with a Glock.

Savage,
I like the 36 but when I hold it, it feels like the bottom of the grip would shove pretty good in the palm of my hand and didn't think that it would be comfortable after a while.  But for what its made for, its probably hard to beat.  Can't be any more uncomfortable than my Bond Arms Derringer in 44 mag though.  It really is UNcomfortable if you use full house 44s in it.  Neat toy though.  Thanks.  GS

Zeus,
Actually the 36 is pretty comfortable to shoot. It would feel like a 22LR compared to the 44 Mag Bond!! Yeah, the grips too short to feel right, but I guess that's the price you pay for concealability!! I shoot it quite a bit as I believe you should be proficient with what you carry. Which brings up the only criticisim I might have for the 357 Sig, ammo cost. Of course that's not a problem if you reload. You still have the option of buying a 40 S&W barrel for it and having an abundance of cheap pratice ammo available. Either way you can't lose!

Well, I went and picked up the 32 this weekend but didn't get a chance to get to the range to shoot it yet.  Hopefully, I will be able to go later in the week.  I think I was right about leaving the others at home, the weight of this thing is great.  I bought some 125 Gold Dots (looks like a good carry bullet) to see how they work in it and some UMCs for practice until all of my reloading stuff comes in for it.  Like I said earlier, this is not a pretty gun but there is a weird appeal to it anyway.  I'll keep you posted on how it shoots.  Thanks for the help.  GS

By the way, any favorite loads are appreciated.
