if you are looking for info about northern european cannons look at this

                   www.arkeliet.net

its mostly norwegian , swedish , danish and german models .
but its very very interesting. oldest artillery handbook is dated 1698

when you come there , look for the word  :  bildearkiv
its located in the right upper part of your screen, leftclick at that word and you will find yourself in heaven  ;D ;D ;D
then just choose the book of your choice, left click on it and see all pages in it
all drawings are enlargeable, now you dont need to guess anymore of how things looked .

ok I know I have mentioned this address before in an post , but I belive its that much important that it need its own .

hope you will write down your comments here after you been there

Thanks, on my screen it was a different B-word but as I recall the root word was also "bild" so that worked for me.  Interesting stuff there, I need it all since I never know what I'm going to run into next out there in the marketplace.  As strange as it seems, I'll bet there are almost as many different kinds of cannons as there are small arms.

     Dan,    Thank you so much for posting this link.  I found what you mentioned under the main drop-down menu label of "BildeGalleri".  I single clicked on that and at the bottom right of the page which comes up is a gallery called Gunnebo 2006.  Click on that and you will get some amazing photos of artillery close-ups and mock battle pics.  We really like the center top photo of a coehorn mortar and the pic to its right showing some very unique field artillery carriages which look like they might have a traverse mechanism built into the carriage, perhaps with a front pintle of sorts.  A very nice site!

Regards,

Tracy and Mike
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

And besides the interesting cannon there are some nice mortars also,
I do have a question are the red painted carriages with the bright yellow iron work for actual field use or for parade?

On the cannon model site he has an area to put in various dimensions it would be an interesting tool if it could be translated
into English.

this is an form to use if you need help to identify an cannon you have , or if you need help with measurements for an carriage .
but it should be completed with some high quality photos also . and an description of material

then send it to Trond and he will help you to identify your gun , or calculate the right dimensions for an carriage .

A= caliber diameter
B= largest diameter of bell
C= barrel diameter at the trunnions
D= largest diameter at breach
E= trunnion diameter
F= smallest diameter of barrel
G= bell length
H= barrel length  from trunnion center
I= chamber length  from trunnion center
J= length from largest diameter to end cascabel ,  hope that was the right english name   ;D
