"A" Prefix - Armor Alloy coating? Good or Bad?
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:31:44 PM »
Hey all,

I came across a Contender with a silver frame, Axxxx serial number, blue barrel.  After searching here, it appears to be an Armor Alloy coated frame.  The blue barrel on it locks up tight.  Good condition.
If this model frame worth more or less than a normal blue frame?  Are there specific disadvantages to look out for?
Thanks.
Don

Because of the plating the Armor alloy frames did not always fit the blue or stainless barrels. the simple fix was to ream the cross bolt holes to fit the blued pins. If this has been done there is nothing to worry about. If the gun is what YOU want and the price is what you can afford, buy it and enjoy shooting it.

OK, thanks. So what you're saying is that I could remove the forearm to see if a regular blued pin is in there, or can I make any assumption based on there being what appears to be a regular blued barrel mounted?
How about if I take my own barrel and pin off my current blued frame, and try it on the AA frame?
Don

BTW, $360 for the pistol frame, wood forearm and grip with cushioned backstrap, and 14" 44mag barrel with weaver rail is good, right? No rear sight.

$360 Would be a fair price for a complete pistol.  Frames are going for around $225 which would put the barrel at about $135.  Not a bad deal.  I own a Armour Alloy II frame and 4 barrels It's a great pistol with a very durable finish.

Too late, I bought it. ;D

Can I get an intervention?
