5.4 Quake in IL+
« on: April 18, 2008, 01:30:15 AM »
We caught an alleged 5.4 earthquake just a couple hours ago here in Central IL.
Our's (read my area) was very light as the Wife & I could hear one grill on a wall heater rattling for perhaps 10-15 seconds.

We recieved a phone call within the last hour from a daughter who lives a couple hundred miles away in the Speedway Indiana area. They actually had pictures come off the wall and she thought the building was coming down for a while. Did any of you feel this?

My daughter lives up in Ellsworth, Illinois, just east of Bloomington/Normal. She said it woke her up this morning.
How far is that from your location?

I slept through it in west TN, but several friends said it woke them. The radio said that it was felt in parts of Alabama.

My cistern top is cracked and some folks have major foundation cracks, some water lines busted too, a few with broken windows and lots of pictures knocked off of the walls.  Bricks from some old buildings in Lou came down, but nothing major. Most folks thought the rumbling was a tornado, it wasn't. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

The problem must have been caused by power plant emissions and global warming.

My folks live in Marion, they said no damage there. I have heard that animals can sense this sort of thing coming. The folks said that the dog slept right through it and the cat was sleeping when it hit. The cat went straight up in the air and took off like a bat out of H. It took them all day to find her.

My sister is in Decatur, Il and she was up when the quake hit.  She knew what it was and said the sound came up out of the ground, not down from the sky like a thunderstorm.  The glass doors on her fireplace were open and she saw them shaking.  They did not have any damage, though.  Her husband slept through the quake and did not know anything had happened.  I will have to ask her what her cats did.  I would have liked to have seen Blackpowder Bill's folks' cat.  That would have won some money on America's Funniest Home Videos.
