New toy to play with
« on: April 19, 2008, 12:28:28 PM »
New toy came in today.

Winchester Apex .45

Love the non-glare finish they use on the barrel.  I went and put on a cheapie scope i had  and mounted it.
When shooting i first started with 70g pyrodex select and it did NOT like it one bit.  Next i went and tried 70g pyrodex P and it really did good with pyro P so i will use that for now.

285g Hornady Great Plains conical seemed to fit to loose for my liking so i emailed BS  to see what kind of conical he could mold me in 300 to 400 grain.

So far it seems to be a great shooting gun. I  wanted to use a bushnell banner 3-9x40 but i have low scope mounts and so i had to use a 32mm scope  :'(

I used CCI shotshell primers and they all came out nice and easy.

Will be a  fun gun to shoot once i buy some Powerbelts and give those a try and work my way out to 100-175 yards.

I'll call her Black Beauty  ;D I love that black on black look. Looks sleek. I'll top it off with a silver bullet (300g Powerbelt Platinum)

I'll get some higher mounts so i can use my 3-9x40mm Bushnell Banner. I never had good luck with the scope thats on it at the moment but thats all i had that fit.

Looks good. I have to admit I don't like the Winchester Apex much due to the barrel weight and such but I hear its good. Can't wait till the range result.

I think with the scope and all, its close to 9lbs, probably heavier. Balance on all the winchesters "two models" has always been excellent and they are built sturdy. I dont notice the weight when carrying them through the mountains.

It shows promise to being a good shooter. I need to buy some powerbelts for it.

I don't really like heavy ML's and thats the only downside to it and the same with the Encore.

Shot a couple 255g maxi's today and adjusted the scope for them. I have to buy more bullets as i am all out of everything for a .45  :'(    They loaded slightly tighter than the GP's so thats a plus.  I'll have to buy more and sight in and then move on to powerbelts. The maxi hunters shot well with 70g pyrodex P.

You aren't the only one out of stuff for the 45. I have 2 and its about impossible to find what you want for one.
