Hello from Northern Idaho
« on: April 19, 2008, 06:06:41 PM »
Hello everyone,

New to these boards, ive been lurking for a while but just decided to finally sign up, My name is David, Im located in Northern Idaho, im 24, Im Happily Married, and have a 10 month old daughter.

I have been into shooting, and the outdoors since i can remember. The main reason i signed up was because i have always wanted to hunt, but have never had the chance to, I never had anyone to take/teach me. I hope this year is the year i get a chance to do so. After haveing my daughter i decided it was time to teach myself if neccisary, bacause it seems like a great sport to enjoy with your kids, seems like you folks have a very mature and friendly place here so thought it wise to go ahead an sign up.

Im also fairly new to northern Idaho, so if theres anyone in the area, Drop me a line, i would be glad to buy you a drink and get to know some like minded individuals in my area.

anyways thanks for haveing me here,

and for kicks, here is the most recent photo of me and my family.

Welcome, David!

Always nice to see new hunters/shooters taking up the sport. I was fortunate enough to have my dad teach me. You can always find good people at organizations like RMEF, MDF, NWTF, Friends of NRA, etc, they always need help at the functions, good way to get to know the right people. Also ranchers and farmers or other landowners can always use some help, I lucked out meeting some ranchers here, after helping them brand a few times they invited me to hunt with them, even provided me a horse. 7 years ago they bought an outfitting business and they hired me. I'm lucky enough to have a job that I can take 2 mos. off each year to work for them. So now I get to hunt Mountain goats, mulies, elk, and an occasional sheep, get to write off all my hunting equipment and meet some great people. I'm living the dream, all because God put the right people in my path. Good luck, beautiful family you have. Jim

Welcome David, I too am self taught as a hunter but I've been at it a bit longer than you. I've been hunting for about 57 years or so now I guess. I started out using a Daisy bb gun to hunt the local bird population at the age of five or six back in the very early 1950s. I'm not sure if all the birds I shot were legal or not but that long ago I don't think it was illegal to shoot any of them altho today it would be for many of them.

I did learn to stalk and get close to my quarry that way and those lessons learned early have paid off in the transistion first to small game then to big game later in life.

Welcome... I will be in your neck of the woods the last half of May for spring spot & stalk bear hunting with my son. And a little fishing.....Can't wait.

Went to a gun show here yesterday and picked up a new side arm for my son specifically for this trip. I purchased him a light weight 41mag with a 2 inch barrel. He will holster that as back up since we are in griz country up there.

We will be about 25 miles north of Sandpoint.
