Does anyone know the size of the screws for Marlin scope bases?  are they 8x40 x something?

You might have to measure the screws by fitting one into the proper hole of a plastic sizing card.

You didn't say which Marlin model the base fits, or if you meant the size of the factory D/T'd receiver scope mount holes in whatever model Marlin - but, although most guns use a 6-48 screw(s), the centerfire Marlin lever actions, I've owned & worked on, all used the larger diameter 8-32 screws.

I can't say if other Marlin models use the same size screws - since I've never touched any, with regards to scoping.

I guess the 8-32 should be it as the rifle is one of the center fire lever actions.  And I can say it's the same screw for the M-30 and the M-336. ;D  Thanks for the size!  I wouldn't have to ask but it seems that some people can't put on a scope mount and not butcher up screw heads!  Oh well, maybe I should stop buying used rifles...

Don't you guys mean 8-40? I have never heard of 8-32's being used for scope mounts.

I dunno.  I used 8-40 in my original post because I'd used them before, but not for scopes unless I drilled and tapped a stripped 6-48 (?) hole and now I need to know the factory thread size.

Not having one at hand just now I'd call Marlin customer service or Brownells tech lone at 800-741-0015. Of course you're betting that the guy who buggered up the existing screws didn't replace them at some point.. I'd remove the existing screws and be certain all the same size and what size that might be..
