Which .243 should I buy?
« on: April 22, 2008, 03:58:12 PM »
Found two .243's today.
One is a older model with a new set of survivor stocks. (Heavier barrel) $185
The other is a regular contour barrel with synthetics on it.(dealer said was in almost new shape) $200
Will the older heavier barrel shoot better? Which one would you buy?

That would depend on how you are using it.  If you are sitting in one spot or just target shooting, go for the bull.  If you are a still hunter, or carry it much, go for the standard contour.  Just make sure it isn't the superlite unless you are really patient.

I just bought a 243 supper-light rifle.  I wanted a 243 to use up a lot of bullets and the price was right (brand new in the box for $200).  I also plan to send the action back and have perhaps a 444 marlin barrel fitted.

Personally,  I have had much better accuracy with the heavier barrels. Besides, since the handis are lighter in overall weight, why not take full advantage and go bull all the way!!
