500 S&W Handi Article
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:46:57 PM »
The June issue of Shooting Times has an article by Lane Pearce about a 500 S&W Magnum. He put a Bushnell HOLOsight on it. Was shooting any where from an 1" to 2" range at 50 yards. His best groups were with Hornady Custom 350 XTP/MAG at 1".

Ya, but Lane probably needs to read the FAQ's.  His picture showed him shooting with his front rest centered on the forearm.  Could have probably cut his groups in half.   ;D

John Taffin wrote an article on the Handi in .500 S&W when they first came out. IIRC he used the open sights as is in his testing.

I have one i never could get it to group.  I had some scope problems from the recoil.  It may be a good shooter but I didn't spend much time with it.  I did develop a severe flinch from shooting that monster.

The John Taffin article is online, there's a link to it in the FAQs. I've got good enough accuracy with my 500, 1½-2" 100yd groups with the 350gr XTP, 440g CP and the 700gr RR, next up is the 385gr Rem Core-lokt bonded sometime this year if the weather will ever cooperate. ::) :-\ :'(
