4th annual shoot / Safety
« on: April 23, 2008, 10:07:55 AM »
I was looking back over some of the older posts from past years and got to thinking ( scary I know ) When Wes first got this thing off the ground he set some basic safety rules for shooters and to this date have served us all very well , we are coming into out 4th shoot with no one getting hurt and we need to keep it that way .

Here is the link to the rules that were used for the first shoot and I think we all need to look over them as a refresher just to keep everyone going home the same way we got there .

I will have extra ear plugs for anyone that needs them again this year . Another thing to consider is the weather , 2 years ago the heat was up and it made this old fat Ohio boy sick . Everyone needs to remember to drink plenty of water , not sure what the heat will be like this year buts its something to consider . Heat stroke / stress can come on in a hurry . :o

Too much sunshine and heat can be a real problem for some of us old fat folks. On that first hunt I took a sun shade thing with me but found I had made a poor choice in buying it. I wasn't able to put it up and take it down by myself very well and the fellow who rode out with me as a hunting partner had no interest in helping. Even when I got it up tho it didn't seem to offer much shade so I had to keep moving my bench.

Due to my health I can't stay out in the sun very long each day and MUST get into the shade well before noon and really not get back into the sun light again until nearly sundown. To do otherwise I am truly cooked. An all day session will see second degree burns on all exposed flesh in just one day.

For that reason I mostly was back at the motel each day by noon and took my almost mandatory daily nap and lazied around until time to head out to Dan's place for the evening festivities. Were I rich and famous or mostly just rich I could afford a big motor home with one of those roll out awnings and then I could always be in the shade and have my bed right there for a nap.  :o
