Planting the garden

I think that I am safe enough (temp wise) to plant the garden this weekend. We are mainly Tomato specialist but also will have a fair amount of green beans, bell peppers, potatoes, and Zucchini.
It is not much but provides for a lot of bartering with friends and neighbors who do like wise. We usually end up with more than enough asparagus, brussel sprouts, and much more through this bartering which may become important in the coming years.
I need to get the granddaughter out so we can stock up on some bluegill & Crappie...Yeah!...we still have been eating a lot of venison and I have a fair supply left. A good bonus here in Central IL is the sweet corn. I don't usually plant any of this cause when those farmers hit the markets, there is more than you can shake a stick at!. I really do love this time of year and all the produce that it can bring. The Wife does a great job of cold packing or canning of these items...my mouth is watering now.

I was out plowing a garden with my 1962 gravely 2 wheel tractor and had a major engine malfunction Had to go buy a rear tine tiller

I should have my butt kicked for not living where i could have a garden. Love those new taters and fresh onions, okra, green beans.

Being it just snowed here 2 days ago I think i;ll wait on planting.

Mine's already in the ground.  I have tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, string beans, squash, sweet corn cant elopes, and two varieties of watermelons.  The tomatoes, broccoli, squash were started in a cold frame.   I use a Farmall M that was my father's to disc, it still runs like a sewing machine.

Just cant beat an old Farmall Super M. I had lot's of hours on one of these but unfortunately it was to clean out barns with the spiked scoop and to load the honey wagon.

I got lettus, onions ,beets and radishes coming up already and hope to get tommatos ,beans ,brussel sprouts ,squash,peppers
and melons planted this weekend.Plus my daughters herb garden is poking thru today. Kurt

I live in Northern Wisconsin and have planted as late as June 15 with good results. I have learned through trial and error it is better to plant 2 weeks late as compared to two weeks early. Soil temperature is a key element.Warmer is better.
