Date of manufacture of my 30-06
« on: April 25, 2008, 08:28:52 AM »

In 1966 I bought a Safari Deluxe 30-06 rifle, for the astounding price of 134.00 and it still out shoots me.  A fellow asked me when it was manufactured and I have not been able to find out. On it is #Z24651, so does anyone out there have an idea of where I could go to get date of Mfg.

thanks

little pete,

Here's a place to look up dates of manufacture for Browning rifles:  www.browning.com

This is their official web site.  At the top of the screen "Click on Services", then scroll down to "Date of Manufacture".  You'll be taken to a page where you can look up your specific rifle.

Hmmm what make rifle?

Several makers used the Safari deluxe as a model designation.

[Several makers used the Safari deluxe as a model designation.] - +1

For instance, my early -60's Parker-Hale Mauser 98 is marked "SAFARI DELUXE " on the left receiver wall.

The serial number you gave doesn't fall within Browning's serialization scheme. ( Z24651)

The Browning "Z" prefix was used in only two years, 1969 & 1974 - later than your purchase.

A Browning 1969 "Z" would be # Z69XXXXX, and a 1974 "Z" would be # Z74XXXXX.

Yep but later Parker-Hale rifles did not have the model name on the left wall. I have a model 1100M African ,magnum which I only identified the model from a P-H advertisement flier. It only has the P-H name and address roll-marked on the barrel.
