Well guys I will officially never do business with gander mountain again! I don't know if any of you read my other post but i had gander mountain order me in a 700vsf .308 LH they told me 5-7 days. Waited around and then i called after 2 weeks. they said nope hasn't came in yet. well started to be about 6 weeks i called and made them get to the bottom of it. WELL they called the the store in Geneva which they ordered it in from and told me "oh they called the salesman back and told him the gun was sold the next day". But I never heard a thing back from him.

So since that gun is a rare commodity for left handers as myself i started looking at Remington more and seen they came out in a sps varmint in a .308. well decided i would give them one more chance. Salesman said it would take 5-7 days. well gave it 5-7 called them and they said "oh it could still be another 5-7" then i started to get really pissed so I went to scheels and I'm really not a fan of scheels because of their high prices. Talked to the manager and he said yeahi can get you one in and its thirty dollars cheaper. i asked how long 3-5 days he said. well called back the fourth day and it was in.

gotta hand it to them i was pretty impressed and  still haven't heard back from gander mountain.

I think Cabela's is the parent company of Gander Mt, now.  Maybe you should call or write Cabela's expressing your displeasure with them.  I know Cabela's customer service record is very good and they may be able to help.

    I do business at the local gun shop.  It may cost me a little more but I always get what I want!  Bob also took pity on my broke butt and made me a couple great deals on some used firearms.  When I have questions he's the first person I turn to.  We've developed a good business relationship and I but him coffee every time I go in.  I could go other places but the shops though operating well within the law.....na.....not for me.  At The Old West it's like siting in the old hardware store chew'n the cud.
    All-in-all, I believe in supporting the local small guy.

I have a little hole-in-the-wall gun shop in the town near where I live and you could not ask for a more accomadating fellow.  He charges you 10% over what the gun cost him and can usually have it in just a couple of days. So his prices are often lower than the big box stores. If you don't like something about it, he'll send it back. I've done a lot of business with him........... but
He doesn't stock any new rifles.  And that's my problem.  I like to handle a rifle before I buy it.  I know he'll send it back if I don't like it but that ain't the same.
I bought a new 700 before CHRISTmas from Gander Mtn based strictly on the figuring in the walnut stock.

Gander Mountain is an independent company listed on NASDAQ.  They sold off their mail-order business to Cabela's some time ago and had to agree not to compete in the mail order and internet sales areas for a period of time.  They chose to expand their store network to make up for lost mail sales.  So, you can't buy anything on-line from GM as you can from Cabela's.

Cabelas has nothing to do with Gander Mountain.  Gander Mountain sold their mail order dept to Cabelas, so they wouldn’t blow away in the wind.  I am glad you received a good deal from Scheels.  Gander Mountain is over priced compared to everyone.

I don’t shop Scheels, Gander Mountain or Bass Pro.

I get the best service from Cabelas and midwayusa.  I get the best gun deals from gun broker.

I really liked shopping at sportsman's warehouse when the right salesman are working. the last two time i have got stuck with idiots that didn't belong working behind a gun counter. Dont mean to bash people but how these guys received a job as a firearms salesman beats me. That just turned me off from the store it reminded me of gander mountain to much lol. Still to this day haven't heard back about the rifle I had ordered in.

 Oh well its done with now. I wish their was a little firearm/ammunition dealer around here i would def support them.

What you are asking of a store/gunshop is very reasonable. I think most of us know what we want and we definitely know what we like. There are times, however, that we have a few technical questions about a scope, rifle, etc and would like some kind of answer that makes sense and is correct. I have asked questions that I know the answer to just to test the waters with the guy I am dealing with. If they say something that I know is completely off the wall, I am done with that sales person and go on to another. I might even leave and come back another day if I am not in a hurry. I also do a lot of research before I go to the store to help educate myself as much as possible.

Here's one, no two more on Gander Mountain.
A member of our local IZAAK WALTON bought a used rifle from the local store here in VA along with a box of factory shells.
I don't remember what gun or caliber it was which really doesn't matter.
The sales person took the time to instruct him on the workings of the gun and to make sure he new what he was doing.
This gentleman has been around firearms most of his life.
He went to the range three days after buying the gun and on the fourth round down the barrel it completely blew into four different pieces.
The front half of the stock and the complete barrel game apart at the receiver.
The clip went out the bottom along with the trigger.
He received sever injuries to his right hand and the right side of his face.
He did have his shooting glasses on which surely saved his eyes. 
This was with factory ammo remember.
The rest of the ammo has been tested by two different places and found to be well within the specs for that caliber.
The gun was certified by the gunsmith at the time for Gander Mountain prior to the gun being placed on the rack for sale.
I say at the time because for some reason he no longer works there.
A law suit is pending and who knows how that will end or how long it will take.
The man has recovered with only a couple of marks on his hand.

Now for my own problem with them.
In JAN. of this year they were running a sale on some safes they had.
They weren't the top of the line but wasn't the cheap stamped steel ones either.
The price was right and since my two safes were overflowing I purchased two of them to hold my junk guns.
You know the dirty ones you use all the time so your good stuff doesn't get banged up.
When I opened the carton on the first one all was well.
The second one was missing all of the rests that the guns lean against.
I took my receipt back with me and asked if I could get the parts that was missing.
The salesman had to get the manager and he told the salesman to get some out of another safe and give to me.
Probably how mine was missing in the first place.
Guess what?
Eleven new safes in unopened cartons just like mine and not a one had the rests in them.
Sounds a little far fetched to me.
They assured me they would order them and have them in within a week.
Today is APRIL 30th and still no rests.

These two story's and the fact of the outrageous prices is why I will not shop at Gander Mountain!

They were founded in 1960 in Wilmot, WI.  Gander Mountain now is owned by the same company that owns Holiday gas stations and became publicly traded in 2004.  They are now headquartered in St. Paul, MN.  When they acquired the company in 1996 the catalog business was sold to Cabelas.  Now they are getting back into the catalog/direct marketing business.

I always wondered what went wrong with Gander Mtn. When I lived in N. Illinois I use to run up over the boarder to their big store in Wilmont Wi. It use to be a great place with lots of gun, ammo & gear. They seem to get lost in the internet revolution.They really never made the transition to a web store. They only served the local markets with retail ops. I wounder what Cabelas wants to do with them?

maybe I do too much business with my local gun stores because gander mountain is always the highest price on guns or reloading components even when they run their sale they are at normal price compared to the competition.

 The rather  new GM in central Fla................Thought it would be the second coming of something  good....................nope.  For me it`s a major dis-appointment.   My issues are more a price and skimpy stock issue.

Gander Mountain, Hmmmmm, Don't need to ask me twice for an opinion. If you handload don't expect to find anything out of the ordinary, like say, .25 cal centerfire, one bullet, 100gr B.T. If you shoot it fine, if not, you'll have to go elsewhere, and when you go elsewhere expect to pay LESS! They seem to stock only the more popular items i.e. 270/30/06 anything else is so so. When I stop at G.M. these days its because I drive by one on my way home from work, convenient, Hardly. It seems when I'm willing to pay $2 more for a pound of powder (because of convenience) they "just" sold the last one. My wife bought me a Rem 673 a few years ago. She has purchased firearms for me off & on for more than 20 years. (you just never know what's going to be wrapped up and under the tree, birthdays anniversary's you name it) To say she has knowledge of firearms is an understatement, yet She's a female and I guess the male salesman by virtue of his gender knows more. A cash paying customer is just that, when a question is asked or comment made, you answer it politely or comment "POLITLEY". To say he tried to make her look small is an understatement. She was able to turn the tables on the S.O.B., politely I might add and made the sale with another "talking head behind the counter". Why didn't she just leave? (I would have) I guess She had to make "HER" point, She did. More?, there is you know, but I'll just end by saying that there price aren't just to high but ridiculously HIGH, and I think they pirate there help from who knows where. (I was going to use the old axiom about McDonald's, but I give there employees higher marks for knowledge of there job and customer service.
