S&W 125th Anniversary Edition N-25,Alox #2138F
« on: July 17, 2003, 10:00:59 AM »
A friend has one,new in box, wants $600.00 for it.I want it!I figure that the Model 25's I may find on a dealer's shelf are going to cost at least that, and I'll be the first user of this particular one(hopefully the last user during my lifetime).I just like a .45 better than a .44,but still want a double action Smith.I can't afford an old Triplelock, even if I could find one.My goals for this one are to use the Lyman #454424 SWC and probably Unique and try to keep safe but medium to heavier loads in it.What is your favorite load in a 6" Model 25?What size does your revolver need it's cast bullets sized to? Do you foresee any concerns I may run into?I want this to deer hunt, target, defense and plinking.I also have this question on Alox 2138F,is it and a 50% beeswax mix a good revolver lube?I know that the mixture is good for cast bullets in a .30/06,but want your input on it in a revolver.I have lots of beeswax but no alox. Thanks ya'll,Jeff,276-783-9746.:D

S&W 125th 45 Colt

I had one and it was nice, but the cylinder was short and didn't allow 255gr SWC to be seated without shortening the brass or they would stick out of the cylinder.  Throats maybe set up for 0.454 dia slugs as now they are for 0.451/2 dia bullets.  The very best S&W 45 Colt revolver that I have had was the Model 25-5 with a 4" barrel. I have a 25-9 with the 6" barrel and wanted the 4", but S&W didn't have anymore 4" to put on it.  You almost never see the 25-5 with a 4" for sale on GunsAmerica or elseware. I also have a 45 Colt Mountain Gun and like it,  but would put a 4" full lug barrel on it in a NY minute.

I guess the moon is right for all of the collectors to roll them over. Any how I'm not quite old enough to have ever bought a NIB pinned S&W so I figure this was my way to do it. The few shooting buds I've shown it to say "you can't go and shoot that". I suppose that's one way of looking at it. On the other hand mine was $499 with box, coin, book and plastic tie wrap around the trigger and hammer - how much will a top notch used one run me if I want a 45 to shoot? I'm seeing a range $450-550 for clean used and used is not NIB in my book...
