Just bought my first Stevens.......................

And I am very pleased. After reading alot about these rifles I decided I would give them a shot. Got one in 30-06,mounted some Leupold bases & rings, threw on an extra Nikon scope, adjusted the trigger and painted the stock. Took it out today and with a cheapy Federal blue box of ammo it put every group within 3/4". I even tried some old handloads I had from another -06 and it seemed to like them too, less then 1/2".

So far I am amazed at this little $300 rifle, just wish I would've tried them earlier.

I have ordered the Rifle Basix trigger from Midway, but that is the only real problem with this rifle.

great paint job. i got one in .223. it shoots great too. but not as nice looking

What did you use to paint the stock?  Will it hold up over time?

I use DURACOAT and havent had one scratch yet. I do put 2 or 3 coats of clear coat over them as well.
