Ice on lakes!
« on: May 02, 2008, 10:42:49 AM »
As of yesterday, 05/01/08 there is still ice on Long Lake in Washburn county, most of the lake is covered. I have never seen such late ice in all my life. It may go today with all the rain, but I am not sure. Snow is in the forecast for tonight! This is fishing opener! Some people are driving great distances to fish in this area and may discover ice at the boat landing. Global warming is pure BS.

Back in the late 60's my dad, brother in law and I drove all night to be at the boat landing on  Lac Vieux Desert  at daylight. We got there to find the Ol' Desert ice covered and not another vehicle in the parking lot. We went over to Big Twin only to find out that because it was a boundary water,  Vieux Desert wasn't gonna open till the next weekend anyway. Thank God there was ice......

I really feel for the trout fishermen. With all the rain we've had the last coupla weeks, and especially Thursday night and last night,  the streams are high, wild and muddy. Pickin' up night crawlers has been easy tho.
