wildcats?

Ok, so what does it take to "invent" a new cartridge, get wildcat status and get to name it ?

  simply change any thing on a standard factory round. case length, shoulder position or angle,. Neck it up or down, get a gun chambered for it and a set of dies. Then you have to copy right the name. That's why the 22-250 isn't called "Varminter" . jerry Gebby had the name Varminter copy righted.

Thats sounds straight forward enough, but it bet tougher then it sounds, and costs a fair bit, having to have dies made.

You can start with a copy of "Cartridges of the World" but even that book won't have all the combinations of possibilities.

One of the reloading companies has a list of dies they make for wildcats.

It would be another place to look as Barnes only lists a very few of the wildcats.

P.O. Ackley's books would also list some.

Check out the CH/4-D die listings.  From the 1940's through the 1960's, CH was the most reasonable at furnishing custom dies and their list is mind boggling.  That and a copy of Ackley's books and your time will be occupied for some months to come.
