« on: May 08, 2008, 11:44:47 AM »
This is an older rifle but in good shape. Would this be the same as 32 h&r?
would it possibly  handle 32 H&R mag. or am i asking too much.

You're asking too much.

The .32 Long could be easy, or problematic - depending upon whether or not your rifle's breechblock has a center or rim firing pin.

If it's a rimfire, it's most likely the .32 Long Colt Rimfire - mostly unobtainium, nowadays AFAIK. Ditto the .32 Short Colt Rimfire.

If it's a centerfire, it could be either the .32 Long Colt Centerfire, mostly unobtainium, or (hopefully) the .32 S&W Long Centerfire, currently made & selling for about $27 per box/50.

The respective rim/center fire .32 Short Colt's will chamber/fire in the respective Long Colt chambers, as well as in the .32 S&W chambers - but not the reverse.

The .32 H&R is fatter & longer still, but more importantly - the H&R is loaded to much higher pressures than that action was designed to hold.  Double Ditto, for the new .327 Hornady.

I read an article in an old "Rifle" magazine on how to convert the 32 rimfire to centerfire.  They caution, of course, to use only light loads (maybe even they were only blakcpowder of Pyrodex loads), but you could reload the cartridges.

Are you sure it is a falling block? Stevens made the 44 and 44-1/2 rifles, which while similar in appearance are quite different. The 44 is a swinging block, the 44-12 is a true falling block action and much stronger.

The suitability of any rechambering will depend on which model you have.
