25.06 ammo
« on: May 09, 2008, 03:49:47 AM »
Ok, I finally purchased a T/C encore with a 25.06 26" heavy barrel.  I have the scope mounted and bore sighted and will be sighting in a couple weeks.  My question is if anyone has one, and next question is what would be the best over the counter ammunition to try before hand loading.  I don't know how to handload yet, but I've had incredible luck with my rifles tack punching with factory ammo.  Just not sure which brand, grain, and projo to look into for this caliber as I am completely new to the 25.06.  any input would be great.

I tried several brands when I got mine last year. I have the same gun as you with no modifications. Mine consistently puts the Winchester 120 gr "positive expanding points" under an inch at 100yrds. The Federal Fusions 120's group right at 1 inch. Groups were horrible with several weights of Remington  standard ammo-  usually 2-3.5 inches. I picked up some Federals with Nosler partions at a gun show but haven' t tried them yet. Three whitetails were taken with the Winchester's last year with good results.

100 grain core-lok, it shots just about the same as my loaded up 4350 pills.
