I think Rem. really dropped the ball when they quit making them...  They were some of the best rim fires on the market for a decent price...  Have you seen what clean 541-s' bring these days?

I bought this 582 the other day, in near "unfired" condition for $175.00 with the nice clear Bushnell scope already on it...

I'd rather have this 582 than a CZ452, and it was less than half the $$

Good deal!!!!!!!!!! ;D Is that a tube feed mag? If so how many can you fit in it? Dale

Yes, it's tube feed...  NO mag. to loose...  The plastic mags. the 500 series had, are by far the weakest link for them.

It holds 16 long rifles, but it feeds longs and shorts perfectly too, and it holds a bunch of shorts!

It shoots good, but i need to take the time to put it on the bench and see what it will "really" do...

Looks like the ideal Squirrel gun to me.  I like it.

I also hear whispers that the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum is about to make a comeback this year, by just about everyone else but Remington.  And new production should take some heat off the going price of $80 a box (ebay) for 5mm RRM ammo.  That ammo is now available for around $18 a box.

When Remington made the 5mm mags, it was a 591 and 592.  591 was clip fed (as I am sure the 581 was) and the 592 was tube feed (like your 582).  Both were based on the same platform.

All good 500 series editions from Remington.

  Hi jvs,

In 22lr The 580 is a single shot, 581 is clip fed, and 582 is tube fed...  Of course there's variations of the above...

In 5mm mag.  The 591M is clip fed and the 592M is tube fed...  I bought one of each waaaaay back when they came out, and sold the 591 long ago...  I liked the tube feed model a lot better and still have it.  I also have about 17 boxes of the origional Rem. ammo that i bought back then too...

Yes, they are making 5mm ammo again, and i've seen it for $16.95 a box...  I think they will soon have several different loadings, and also there will be 4 or 5 different "new" guns to shoot it in...

The 5mm was waaaay ahead of it's time, and IMHO it worked so darn good because Rem. got the bullet right!  It just worked so darn much better than the 22 WMR of the same time peroid...  I'm really happy to see it back!!

  Here's my Rem. LH 592M,

I wish Rem. would bring these excellent rifles back!!

They still make some of the 500 series rifles.  I know that they make the 572 still, and i think one other.  I have had one for years, it is a great rifle.  Very accurate gun, that is for sure.  It has taken many a squirrel, and grouse, that is for sure.

That's true, and they also still make the 552's...  I should have added "bolt action" to my original post...

My 552 has been laying out in the barn for more than 15 years, and it looks like total shi*, but it still fires every time and never jams...  It's "never" been cleaned over all of those years, as i bought it just to leave out there.

You can clean a rimfire?  Whodathunk.

Mine had a couple of "dings" on it.  Like the one ding where I decided to take the cheek piece down a little cause I couldn't get the sight picture because of my big head.  I could of used a hand planer.... but I decided the table saw would work better.  hahahaha.  Actually it turned out pretty well all in all.

But yeah, finding a .22 in bolt action anywhere is getting tough.  Too many semi autos out there now a days.....
