Pulling/Swapping bullets
« on: May 09, 2008, 02:06:46 PM »
I have a bunch of Wolf 7.62x39 125 Grain FMJ rounds. Steel laquered case.
Can I pull the bullets and replace with a 113 Grain Cast? Same powder and, of course, same primer.

Thanks

alan

Have never done it with the 7.62x39 . But do it often with steel cased 7.62x54R. I recrimp the bullets with a Lee Factory Crimp die. They work great with soft point sierra 150 gr. pro hunter. ZACHAROO

Is that 113gr gas-checked?  If not, I suspect that you will have serious leading issues if you tried to use the same powder level.

I have only used jacketed bullets.  Have never tried to do that with cast. Sorry if I was misunderstood. Zacharoo

I wouldn't try it.  Buy some brass cases and work up some loads.

I don't know how you would re-crimp the steel cases.  The lacquer would probably build up in the die.

Of course I have never tried it before, but I feel it would be a huge hassle.

Ya It can be done but why ? , you'll need a neck sizing die to bring the neck tension back to were it will hold the bullet , you will also need to take some steel wool to remove the laquer on the outside of the neck first .

Boxer primed cases can also be FL sized and reloaded just like brass , the down side is that you will only get 2 or at best 3 loadings from these cases , most times it is not worth the hassle unless they are some odd ball round that you can not find brass for .
