I've been wondering, just how much ammo one should bring to one of these.  I remember reading a post where someone had finished loading 2K rounds.  I cannot imagine shooting that much in just a few days in a single shot rifle.  I figured if you could hunt 16 hours each day, for three days thats about 1 shot every 90 secs.  And that is just for one shooter.  I've never been to a shoot, but would sure like to in the future.  Just wondering on the ammo totals.

Thanks,

Jerry

Stimpy, you have too much time on your hands.  We went out on Saturday to sight in a couple of rifles and check a couple more.  I need to make a few forend fitting changes and then check them the week before we go.  We do know that the Jeep will be packed.  My shooting partner has a new shooting bench and I am not sure how we are going to get it there.  We may have to pull a wagon behind us.

I have to do an ammo inventory this week, but I think I have enough.  Excluding rimfire (.22lr & .17HMR) I'll have a little over 1,000 rounds of centerfire ammo.

Jerry

I plan for 300 rounds a day , thats not counting 22LR , last year I took 1500 rounds of CF with me and 300 RF , when I got home I had 150 - 22 LR and 0 CF left , had 4 rifles going , 1 being shot and 3 cooling down .

Took the 223 BB Handi out sat afternoon to check the zero as it had not been shot for about 6 months , still dead on . so all the guns are good to go .

Last year I shot the scope mount loose on my .223 BB.  I have had the rifle for about 4 or 5 years.  I bought it from a neighbor who had used it prairie dog shooting for a few years.  I never thought about the mount coming loose, but sure enough it did.  When I got home I bedded the mount to the barrel and then put lock-tite on the mounting screws.  It is not going to get loose this year.  After remounting the mount and scope, on Saturday I was only off about an inch high and 2 to 3 inches to the right at 100 yds..  It was closer than I thought it would be.

I have about 100 rounds of CF ammo reloaded.  Not planning on taking any RF this year.  All I have in RF are pistols, and I'm not that good of a shot anymore at ranges farther than 50ft! 8) >:(

Well Crap!

I thought that 200 rounds of hornet and 150 rounds of 204 would be enough. I guess I need to think about bringing a 223 and some more ammo

snowbelt45 & Hofs01

If the dog towns are anything like last year , you may have enough ammo for the first morning .  ;) if you have a 17 HMR or 22 Mag you may want to bring them too , most of the time when you pull into a new town there are dogs as close as 25 feet but once the bigger CF's start those will drop down and stay under ground .

You may even get a shot or two at a yote as they like to come in and clean up the carnage in the evenings .

Anyone bring their reloading bench with them? I have a semi mobile unit and could bring it along to reload some. Any benefit to it?

The same question was on my mind before.  However it seems one would have to either remove themself from a shooting session, or worse the post shooting "session". ;D

Depends. Would you rather be reloading or shooting? Most folks are either shooting, resting or eating and of course BS'ing big time. I can't see where reloading fits into the picture. You need to take care of that before you leave home.

I made it to the first shoot and likely fired fewer rounds than anyone there. We had little shooting where I was the first morning and since Dennis didn't have a bench I knocked off early and let him use mine. I didn't shoot that afternoon as I can't take all day sun. We had one more day of nearly no shooting over in Texas County and then got into a good town where most of my shooting took place. I doubt I fired 400 rounds that trip even tho I had perhaps 2000 rounds with me.

I think it's better to bring ammo home unused than run out wishing you had more.

I wouldn't even want to try and reload while there it's hard enough to consentrate at home loading .I could see myself making a mistake or 2 on the road with every thing going on all the time. Kurt

Boy did I screw up! I said 100 rounds of centerfire inmylast post and I meant 1000!  Stimp, you convinced me to bring my RF pistol.  I do remember last year we had some close in shots early, so I'm packin it along.
