New Remington model R-25
« on: May 16, 2008, 08:52:34 AM »
I just received a mail from Remington. New product just came out Remington Model R-25 repeating rifle style of Assault rifle. Caliber available in .243 win, 7mm-08 Rem, and .308 Win. for big game hunting. I was shocked that 7mm-08 is in it. But not my style. I rather bolt or  model 750 semi auto. I just want to let you guys know.

I got the same email.  It's amazing how one writer a couple years ago or so says the assault-type "black rifles" have no use in hunting and now everyone's coming out with one.
They're not for me either, but they look pretty cool, and to each his own. It will be interesting to see how the range reports come out

Can you use a semi-auto in Pennsylvania at all?  You can in Alabama.  Any centerfire mushrooming ammunition, even .223 can be used for deer, pistol or rifle.  No magazine limit.  I know of some who take their AR-15's and shoot does in the head with our liberal doe season.  No meat to spoil.

You are not even allowed to hunt Groundhogs with a simi auto here in Pa. Dale

Too many liberals in the Philadelphia area I guess, telling the rest of the state what to do.  Goes back to what we in the south say, the east and west coasts, large cities, are liberal.  Rest of the country is conservative.  My wife has a niece, that was raised in New York City.  We live in a small southern college town.  She said we are too spread out.  Wierd.  I want to live further out, but am where I am for the school system, until my youngest get through high school in two years.

I recall saying not only on this forum but others that I wish they'd come out with a .308 model, and my dreams have come true! I'd like the .243 as well but they don't make large capacity mags for that caliber as far as I know. I will definitely be getting it in .308!! I hope we don't have to wait forever for these to hit stores, I'll have the $$ in a couple of weeks and want one bad!

Just because you can't hunt with it just yet doesn't mean it can't be used for some fun target shooting :) Down the road, certain states will hopefully have their eyes opened and hunting with them will be permitted. I'm assuming actual price will be around $1,400.00. I'm still stunned that this is happening, stunned in a good way ofcourse!

*I stand corrected, 15 round mags are available for .243win

I could be wrong but the 243 Mags should work for the 308 and the 7MM-08. Dale

You would have to need to kill a lot of stuff to need a semi auto for big game....  I can throw a bolt fast enough for any follow up shot needed.  I guess I've never been in a situation where I found a herd of deer that needed killing, especially with a high cap.

But I guess havin a 7mm-08 for prairie dogs would be pretty impressive, good for those long rangers.

I would really like to have one of these. The problem is I could not decide between the 308 and the 7MM-08. I already have a 243 so that would be out. Dale

The price is about the same as the M1A.  I thought the M1A was a better all steel design.  I guess the Remi would be lighter with the aluminum receiver.  I guess it gives you a hunting rifle that could double as a survival rifle if TSHTF.   I have an L1A1 that I bought for $400 and 12 - 20 round mags for $5 each a few years back.  I have a bolt .308 Ruger stainless 77 for hunting that I bought for $300, so I have two rifles for less money to do the same thing.  I think you could still do this if you frequent gun shows and look for bargains.
