Marauder?
« on: May 17, 2008, 12:02:56 PM »
I have a friend who recently bought an older Marlin in 30-30.  It has a 16 1/4 barrel and a straight stock.  Is this a marauder?  Its marked 336 with no letter.  Shoots like a house afire!  Most accurate 30-30 I have ever shot.

I have been around Marlins for a long time but can't seem to remember a Marauder model. This sounds to me like it may be a custom job, but I cant' say for sure. Try this site, maybe it will help.

There was in fact a Marlin Marauder.  Sounds like it could be one.  It could also be a custom job.  Marauders do exist but are fairly rare.

what he said. Its worth if for you to give marlin a call to verify it is a maruader as there worth a pretty good premium if it is.

Spinafish, The Marlin Marauders do exist but are rare. They are not marked Marauder anywhere on the gun but rather are marked "RC". They do have a letter for the year of mfg. They were only produced in 1963 & 1964. The straight grip and 16&1/4" barrel are the most noticeable features but the front sight is dovetailed into the barrel rather than on a ramp. The stock is fluted behind the grip. The forends are longer than some models, meaning they extend farther past the barrel band.

There were only 5,856 produced with about 65% made in 30/30 caliber and the balance in 35rem.

Hope this info helps, Byron
