Glock 17L Ammo
« on: May 17, 2008, 09:05:47 PM »
I just bought a new 17L and am wondering if any other owners can recommend a favorite type of ammo in terms of accuracy and functioning? Oh and price! LOL.

I just completed a Tactical Handgun class and I used Winchester white box fmj bought from Wal-Mart for $18+ for a 100 round box. They shot just as well as anybody else in class.

Just about any ammo works OK in a Glock. As far as accuracy goes, doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the cheapest and most expensive ammo in the Glock. Just load it with what you have and shoot the devil out of it!

Well you were right on about that Savage. I finally got some range time today, and ran about 600 rounds of a dozen different types of ammo thru it. Quickly, as I was paying by the hour, it got hot. I had some failure to feed with wincester ranger ammo, but it ate every thing else no problem. Even when hot and I did not clean it during my session. Shoot the devil out of it I did. I shot $10 a box ammo and I shot $30 a box ammo and everything in between. Now that being said it did show a preference for Federal American Eagle 147 grain FMJ Flat Point ammo. Is this strictly target ammo or is it also useful for self defense?

Hummm, couple of failures to feed! That's unacceptable!! Nothing mechinal is 100% reliable, but I'd expect zero malfunctions for at least 1000 rds without cleaning. Clean it well, and try the Ranger ammo again, It should feed that as well as any. I like the 124-125 grn hollow points for carry in the 9mm. Gold Dots seen to work as well as any. Good shooting!

I have 2 and they shoot everything well by my experience. I hunt with the Cor-Bon 115+P and have killed deer with neck shots at 30 yards no problem. My best shot on a coyote was 60 yards.

I've had my 17L for about three years now and it has been 100% with anything I stuff in it. I wish all my handguns were so reliable.

Mine shoots really well at 50 yards with most any hollowpoint, but it especially likes Win. USA 147 JHP's and 147 grain SXT's and Silvertips.

Mag Tech practice ammo has been suprisingly accurate as well.

147 grain FMJ-FP's are definatly practice only. Winchester USA hollowpoints (115 & 147) are cheap enough for practice, yet test very well as a defensive round. My personal choice is Winchester Super X Silvertip 147 grains. Accurate, reliable, waterproofed and the choice of my local P.D.

Must be something with 147 grain loads and the 17L.
