7.62x39 Bore Size

Just cast the bore of my 7.62x39 Handi and got .3095. Isn't this a little small for the 7.62x39?
If I remember right, the .30-30 Handi I had was this same size.
Will the Wolfe ammo (.311) and the cast bullets (.312) shoot in this barrel without excessive pressure?

So long as the chamber neck and throat are not tight, an oversize bullet makes no difference at all, strange as that may seem.

Cast bullets are normally .002" oversized....As for jacketed bullets any oversize makes the pressure jump up good amount....I know the ruger mini-30 has a bore of .308....It probably won't be too much of a problem....I'm sure someone else will chime in with some more info...

How are you going about getting Wolfe ammo to shoot from your gun. Heavy or extra springs ?Whut? Kurt

No difference seems like a catastrophe barely avoided...I seriously doubt a copper jacketed bullet .0015" oversized will cause severe pressure increase but it will be more than a standard properly sized load with the same powder charge....I am really surprised that the gun in that thread stayed together...I did see a test on  50BMG bolt action where they actually plugged the barrel with 2 allen screws threaded into it...The action held but shot molten metal out of the end of the bore....

Considering the spec'd bore & groove for 7.62x29 is .300"b & .311"g and you being at .3095"(assuming groove measurement) - you should be ok. 

I'd carefully check for leading with the cast bullets though.  Cast bullets and hi-velocity has a tendency to lead your barrel to begin with - the tighter swaging will only increase the possibility of lead build up.

Never had any problem shooting the Wolfe out of my .223 Handi. Never had a problem with shooting the 7.62x39 out of my SKS.
I plan on going to the range next week. Let ya'll know if there is a problem.
 Be a shame to hafta start loading another caliber.

One of the reasons that it was discontinued was because the hammer will not make the primer go boom.On the Mil surplus stuff. But like most others here I bought a box thinking ya sure not my gun...I got a box of 20 that has 5 primers dented but no boom. Reloads work excellant though very accurate with Sierra .311's. There is some more info in the Faq's on the 7.62x39. Kurt

As far as the problem with the primers getting dented but not making the powder go "boom", I found the same problem with my Handi 7.62x39.   I found that by going to CCI primers, it would go "boom" every single time.  Winchester primers - not every time.

Give the CCI's a try.

I have not had any issues with hand loads using both winchester and cci primers the factory problem is all in the Mil surplus and that was one of the reasons the chambered a bbl for 7.62x39 was all the surplus ammo and thinking they could sell many guns .But the hard primer killed it. Kurt

Pulled 20 bullets out of my Wolfe ammo last night and tried to fire them. Of the 20, 19 fired the primer and one did not.
Maybe I am lucky and got a gun with a heavier spring, or just got lucky with the Ammo.
I will still buy some brass and roll my own for hunting, just use the Wolfe for plinking. Glad I didn't buy 1000's of rounds of the Wolfe, and what I do have seems to shoot very well in my SKS.
