« on: May 18, 2008, 02:24:03 PM »
I just got a Lyman 429244 mold and am looking for load info.  Will be shooting it in a 44 magnum super redhawk and acusport bisley.

What alloy?  How did it perform on deer size game?

No telling how many tens of thousands of those I've shot down my barrels. My best friend and shooting partner (now deceased) and I used to cast them up and shoot them in NRA Silhouette matches as well as informal unregistered competition.

Our alloy was linotype and they dropped out at 242 grains. Our favorite load for competition was 17.5 grains of 2400. Billy loaded them with as little as 12.5 grains and as much as 22.0 grains of 2400 and all performed well.

I still like the 17.5 grain load personally as recoil is relatively mild but they get the job done on game and an exit is just about assured every time. I've used 24.0 grains of W296/H110 with them as well and accuracy is excellent but it really is more than needed.

beileve it or not ive never shot that bullet. I allways had such good luck with the rcbs 240swcgc that i never saw a need to try it. I just picked up a mold though and will wring it out as soon as im feeling better. I know ive never heard anyone complain about that mold.

alloy, straight wheel weights,
Loads 8.5 - 10.0 Unique, 18.0 - 21.0 2400
I used to load the 8.5 unique with out a gas check and add a pinch of poly fiber for the wife to shoot silhouettes with. Looked like  she shot a "puff ball weed" ;D
I would suggest you mike or slug the cylinder throats and hopefully your mold will throw bullets slightly larger {.001}  that the throat dia. and try to size to that dia.
